OUR STORY
The story of CFI-Africa begins with a question , one that echoed across boardrooms, community halls, and policy circles throughout the continent: Where is the African-led evidence that can help us understand our rapidly changing democracy and development landscape? For years, decision-makers, researchers, and citizens grappled with fragmented information, limited locally grounded insights, and an urgent need for research that could move beyond theory and into real systems change. It was in answering this gap that the Civic Future Institute-Africa was born. CFI-Africa emerged as more than an institution.it became a quiet but powerful movement. A gathering place for thinkers, analysts, practitioners, and citizens determined to build an Africa where public decisions are shaped by evidence, where development reflects real needs, and where governance evolves with the people it serves.

Becoming CFI-Africa
From its earliest days, CFI-Africa positioned itself not simply as a research center, but as a
bridge—a connector between ideas and action, between citizens and institutions, between
today’s realities and tomorrow’s possibilities.
The founders envisioned a Pan-African space where knowledge is produced with integrity,
where policymakers can find clarity in moments of complexity, and where ordinary citizens
are recognized as central actors in Africa’s unfolding story.
Over time, CFI-Africa grew into a trusted partner to governments, development
organizations, civil society networks, and community actors across the continent. Its
purpose remained consistent: to elevate evidence, amplify citizen voices, and support the
design of solutions that inspire lasting change.
